Padova è le sue mura

Cinquecento anni di storia 1513 - 2013

The exhibition stems from a collaboration of the Town of Padua, its Culture Department with the Museums and Libraries Section, and the Padua Walls Committee, togher with other city institutions including, to be mentioned for its documentary importance, the State Archives. The forma urbis of the city has been determined and is still strongly marked by the sixteenth century bastioned system that shows real architectural gems, like the two Falconetto gates. These are some of the most extensive  city walls to have been preserved almost in their entirety.
The exhibition narrates the events that led to the need of building the Renaissance walls, traces the history of their construction, and the subsequente one, following Padua loss of importance from the military point of view, when the walls were used for various public and sometimes private functions. The exhibition includes drawings, paintings, archival documents, weapons, stone and ceramic objects, miniature models and solid models.
